About Rest Well Routine

Rest Well Routine is a guide to sleeping, staying warm and walking more at home: pillows, bedding and throws, sleep accessories and home walking gear sold on Amazon US, plus free sleep and walking calculators. It reads makers' specifications and Amazon listings, sorts products by written rules and prints those rules on every list. It doesn't test products, rate them or show prices, and nothing on it is medical advice.

The duplex on Hague Avenue are characters

The site is written as the notes of one St. Paul duplex: a 1924 stucco up-and-down two blocks from Summit Avenue, with a radiator that knocks at 2 a.m., a linen closet called "the archive" and one thermostat for two floors. The three people who sign the pages are the site's recurring characters, written by the editors. They're personas, not real people. They have no credentials to offer, and they never claim to have bought, slept on, washed, worn, walked on or measured any product on this site.

The characters have opinions about kinds of products and habits, and each opinion comes with a reason you can check: a spec, a care tag, a label, a maker's limit or a safety rule. They don't have opinions about how a particular product performed, because nobody here has used it.

How products are picked

Availability on Amazon US is checked every week. A product that's gone is taken out of the tables.

Out of scope on purpose

Some things never appear on the site: supplements of any kind, including pillow sprays that contain them, medications, medical devices for sleep or snoring, mattresses, full-size treadmills and products for babies. Nothing here is meant for an infant's sleep space.

The calculators

The sleep calculator, the steps-to-miles calculator and the bedding size guide use formulas and default numbers from named public sources, like the NIH, the CDC, NIST and the Better Sleep Council. Every default is listed under the result with a link to its source. Results from the sleep and steps calculators are estimates, not medical or fitness advice.

Health and safety

Pages about sleep are general information, not medical advice, and they name their sources. Pages about heated blankets, weighted blankets, ear plugs, walking pads and anything electrical in bed carry plain safety lines and no jokes. If pain, snoring or trouble sleeping keeps up, talk to your doctor.

How the site earns money

Rest Well Routine is a participant in the Amazon Associates program. When you follow a Check price button and buy a qualifying item, Amazon may pay the site a commission, and your price stays the same. The details are on the disclosure page.

How to report an error

If a value, a source, a link or a sentence looks wrong, tell the editors through the contact page. Name the page and the value, and add a link to the maker's page or the public source if you have one. (Margo will want the source anyway. She has a label for it.)
